Kenyan Premier League side, Wazito FC has completed the signing of five players as it readies itself for
the 2020/21 season whose kick the off date remains unknown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite signing some big names in the football industry before the start of 2019/20 season, Wazito
performed dismally in the league and it resulted in the firing of three coaches as owner Ricardo sought
to bring stability into the team.
Recently the team parted ways with 12 players and they have begun rebuilding ahead of next season’s
campaign. Among the new players in the team is Gor Mahia speedy winger Boniface Omondi, the
former Agro-Chemicals, and Nzoia Sugar player has been with Gor Mahia for three years, he has now
moved to Wazito on the Bosman after his contract with the Kenyan Premier League champions.
Striker Vincent Oburu has ditched AFC Leopards for Wazito after his contract with Ingwe expired. Oburu
has been with Ingwe since 2016 when he was promoted to the senior team after he impressed with the
junior side during the KPL U20 tournament. He is a full Kenyan international and was part of the
Harambee Stars team that won the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup that was staged in Kenya.
Goalkeeper Peter Odhiambo has also decamped to the moneybags after he was released by Gor Mahia.
The KPL giants signed Nairobi City Stars custodian Levis Opiyo and to create space, they axed Odhiambo
who has now found a new home in Wazito. Wazito had only one keeper in their roster after they
dropped Steven Njunge and Kevin Omondi a month ago.
The Ricardo Badoer owned side has also signed Fidel Origa a defensive midfielder from cash-strapped
Kenyan Premier League side, Western Stima. The Kenyan u20 player joined the Kisumu based side in
June 2019 from Kariobangi Sharks and was one of the best holding midfielders in the country this
season. Sharks, Bandari, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and KCB were all interested in his signature but he
opted to join the big spenders.
Completing the list of new signings at Wazito is Maurice Ojwang a central defender from Western
Stima. Ojwang has been a key player for the Powermen for a couple of years. He had a short stint with
Gor Mahia in the first leg but K’Ogalo’s financial constraints. His contract with Stima expired and he has
now moved to Wazito, signing a two-year deal.
